Nasty new virus emails

I just got two emails that looked valid, but led to BAD places - infested sites that would have tried to infect my system just by visiting them.  I have all of my emails set to never render the html code, but to show me the actual contents of the email in plain text, so I see the actual links next to what they claim the links were.

One said it was to Fox news and had some incredible headlines - but all of the supposed links actually led to the same webpage - not at Fox at all.

The other was 'Breaking News' and had some really interesting headlines - also all went to the same site even though they claimed to go to various news sites.

So what this boils down to is NEVER click on any link in any email, and never open any attachment on any email unless you are absolutely positive it is safe - that is, you know who sent it and were expecting it - they told you to expect it.

Yes, I changed my website to use a different template - the old one was showing its age and becoming harder to maintain.  I decided a standard one that looked good was better than an extremely customized one that looked OK.

I think it looks nicer, and will display better on mobile devices now.

Windows 10

I love Windows 10 - really!  I was using a Windows 10 laptop at work with the RC version - beta testing - some minor issues that they worked out as they got closer to release date.  I upgraded my laptop first a couple of weeks ago, no issues.  Then Sara's computer last weekend, no issues.

Yesterday I updated my main system to Windows 10 - wonderful, very few issues and those are due to older software.

One thing to watch for if you use Fences - the free version is NOT compatible with Windows 10.  The issue is that you cannot drag icons around on the desktop anymore.  The work around is to cut and paste the icons from where they were to where you want them on the desktop.  That works fine.  Also, if they are in a fence, you can move the fence.

So overall I recommend upgrading to Windows 10 ASAP - if you have windows 7, 8 or 8.1 it's free, but only until July 2016.

Beware new facebook virus

Remember, anything you click on can infect your computer - so if you are trying to view a video on Facebook, for instance, and it tells you you need to download or install anything to view it, IT'S A VIRUS.  Don't do it.

It may say it is a required addon, codec, decoder, viewer, whatever - but it is really a virus.  Don't trust anything that tells you that you need to install or download something to be able to watch a video.

Toshiba Qosmio X75- A7170 17.3-Inch Laptop

This is what I got!  It's running Windows 8.1 which is a bit of a learning curve, but once Windows 10 is released I'll upgrade.

Dead Laptop

My laptop died Monday, I was hoping it was just the power brick so I ordered a new one for $30.  It came in today, but no dice - dead laptop.

It was a Gateway P7811-FX which served me well, was an awesome laptop. Now I have to figure out what to replace it with.
