Petrol Price - A Cost Comparison Of Petrol in the UK : A few notes to help the average American decipher these numbers.

1> Petrol = Gasoline
A> all units are metric, so it is sold by the LITER, not the GALLON
3> There are 3.7854118 LITERS per GALLON
4> The unit of money shown, 95.3 or whatever, is pence, 100 pence to a pound, so .95 pounds for a liter.
5> A pound is worth 1.8876 dollars.
6> This means that they pay 95.3 pence = .953 pounds x 1.8876 = $1.80 per liter
7> 3.7854118 x 1.80 = $6.81 per gallon.
8> They pay much more than we do for gas and we should stop whining about it.

Other European countries pay much more than that.

EDIT: liters per gallon corrected 5/16/06
