Born 'Rouslan' in 2222 on Minbar, to poor military caste parents, he was an only child. His parents were killed in a training accident while offplanet, and he was raised by the Religious Caste from the age of 3. As a young child, he was under-sized, and became the favorite target of the older children, and so he learned to defend himself at quite an early age. He always had an affinity for the staff, or Pike, and dedicated himself to mastering this skill. As he matured, he became interested in his heritage, and decided to become Military caste upon reaching manhood, and so he worked on learning skills that would be required in the Military, such as the various languages and weaponry.

Once he reached the age of majority, he took the name 'Koumari' and joined the Military caste in 2240. He was assigned to a fighter wing as support personnel, and soon demonstrated a desire to become a pilot. By the time of the Earth-Minbari War, he had attained the rank of Lieutenant, in charge of his own wing of fighters. During the war, he defeated the enemy again and again, each time with only minimal damage to his wing - a feat that did not go unnoticed by the High Command, and he was given the rank of Commander in 2248.

After the war, he asked to be attached to Earth Force as a representative of the Military Caste, among the others who were sent to learn more about this young race, in an effort to prevent such future bloodshed over misunderstandings. After only a year attached to Earth Force, he was ordered to Tau Ceti to join a troubleshooting task force led by a young Lieutenant...
