Public Service Announcement : If you use Knoppix to recover data from a failed hard drive, remember to mark it NOT read-only before you copy the saved files back into a new computer. I just recovered a co-worker's system, and while it all worked well, I couldn't open the email folder, send/receive, or use Netscape's secure mode. Among other things. It turned out that many of the critical files that I had copied back into the system were marked read-only. Once that was corrected, everything started working.
