The blue screen of death with the comment "driver has corrupted the executive memory pool" was the final straw for the APC software. Every time the UPS would lose connection to the USB hub, or anything else went wrong with it, I would get that BSOD message. So, I disconnected the usb cable, coiled it up and stashed it in a drawer, and uninstalled the APC software. I would prefer to have a stable system without auto-shutdown as opposed to an unstable system that might auto-shutdown, that is if shutdown is working at all. I might reboot a few times and see if that fixed my shutdown problems.
